Additionally, cyber security was high on the agenda as a number of charities experienced serious data breaches recently.
We proudly did our bit by hosting a seminar featuring one of a few certified ethical hackers in the UK, Steve Nice, Chief Technologist and Head of Security at Node4. He delivered a seminar on the security of remote working.
Within the seminar, Steve pointed out some examples of charities that were hacked, explained the motives hidden behind data breaches, and went through a range of mitigation techniques.
He also performed a live demonstration, showing how easy it is for hackers to detect and get access to an organisations’ remote IT systems, like servers or software applications. Steve also gave the audience a handful of useful tools to use to see how easy this process really is and to understand how to prevent such breaches.
The conference provided a balance between practical IT management, with sessions on new EU reforms and compliance, strategic approaches to system management, and explored how data can be used effectively to drive charity strategy.
All together, it was a great day and we even had time to catch up with some clients and network with delegates.
